Achieving a uniform, seamless color finish with BASWA acoustical plaster starts well before the trowel hits the wall. Proper batching of BASWA Base and Fine materials is a critical quality control step that every certified installer must follow to ensure consistent color tone across the entire installation surface.

Why Batching Finish Materials Matters

When applying a tinted BASWA finish, color inconsistencies can result from slight variations between individual buckets of material. Batching all finish materials together before application eliminates those variations, creating a homogeneous mixture that delivers the seamless, monolithic appearance the BASWA system is known for.

Skipping or rushing this step is one of the most common causes of visible color banding or shading differences in a finished installation.

What You Need

  • BASWA Base and/or Fine finish material (factory-measured for your project)
  • BASWA Colors Tint Additive (available in 4 oz, 8 oz, and 16 oz jars)
  • A clean mixing drill and paddle

Step-by-Step Batching Instructions

Batching BASWA Finish Materials

Step 1: Add Tint Additive to Each Bucket

Add one jar of BASWA Colors Tint Additive to each individual bucket of finish material. Be thorough here: rinse the jar with a small amount of clean water to ensure all tint is transferred into the bucket. Leaving residual tint in the jar will throw off the color ratio.

Step 2: Mix Each Bucket Thoroughly

Using a clean mixing drill and paddle, blend the tint additive completely into each bucket of Base and/or Fine finish material. Mix until the color is fully incorporated and the consistency is uniform throughout.

Step 3: Batch All Buckets Together

Combine half the contents of one color-mixed bucket with half the contents of a different color-mixed bucket. Mix thoroughly. Continue this cross-blending process until all finish material has been incorporated and the color reads as consistent from bucket to bucket.

Important note: Do not mix Base materials with Fine materials. These two material types must be batched separately.

Key Reminders

  • Always use clean equipment. Residual material on the paddle from a previous mix can affect color.
  • BASWA Colors Tint Additive is a 1:1 ratio per bucket, no matter the jar size you are using.
  • Batch all materials for a given area before beginning application; do not batch in stages mid-installation.
